Cold-start budgets that survive Thai network conditions
How we set first-frame targets when users move between BTS Wi‑Fi, office fiber, and congested 4G on Viphavadi-Rangsit.
Many release notes quote cold-start numbers measured on office Wi‑Fi. In Bangkok traffic, the same binary can feel twice as slow once the first network round-trip waits on a crowded tower.
We ask clients to capture three environments before locking a budget: stable fiber, mid-range Android on daytime mobile data, and a commute scenario with brief tunnels or elevated roadways. The budget is the worst of those three that still feels acceptable for the primary entry journey.
A practical starting point for consumer apps serving Thai users is a first interactive frame within about three seconds on a mid-range Android handset over typical daytime LTE. Premium-only targets hide the experience most of your users actually get.
When a build misses the budget, we separate work that must ship before the next store cut from polish that can wait. Deferring non-critical modules, trimming splash work, and pre-warming only the screens behind the first tap usually recover more time than chasing micro-optimizations in quiet code paths.
